About this city
Ethereum City is the Ethereum ecosystem turned into one living map. Downtown in the middle is Ethereum mainnet (L1); the districts around it are the L2s and sidechains that run on top of it.
Building height is token market cap, district size is deposited assets (TVL), vehicles are transactions per second, the container trucks heading downtown are the data (blobs) that L2s post to L1, and the sky and the clouds over each district are the market. The goal is that anyone can see at a glance where it is busy and what is moving, without memorising numbers.
Who made it, and why
This site is an unofficial fan project made and run by one individual. It exists to show what Ethereum and its L2s are, and how they are doing right now, as a cityscape rather than as tables of numbers.
It is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by the Ethereum Foundation or by the teams behind any chain or token shown here. “Ethereum” and the other names are trademarks of their respective owners and are used only to describe what is shown.
What you can do
- Guided tour — three minutes of missions that teach you to read the city.
- City weather — the market as weather, and a traffic tab that shows where it is cheap to send right now.
- Find my home — enter a wallet address or ENS name and a house appears next to the chain you use most.
- Become a citizen — plant your flag in a district, get a house, write in the guestbook.
- Decorate your house and speak on the billboards — citizens receive bricks every day; use them to repaint your roof and walls, add an ornament, or put a short message on the billboards (only checked messages go up, for 24 hours). Bricks are play points and cannot be bought.
- Forecast game — call the next day’s weather for a district. Points only, no prizes.
- Newspaper — one issue every morning, kept in the archive.
- Time-lapse — replay the city growing from 2020 to now.
Data sources
Blocks, gas, blobs, deposits and whale moves are read by your browser straight from each chain’s public JSON-RPC. Market caps, prices and price changes come from CoinGecko; TVL, time-lapse history and forecast settlement prices from DefiLlama; rollup stages from L2BEAT’s classification; wallet balances and transactions from Blockscout or the chain’s own RPC.
Public servers can lag, and some chains may briefly show as “simulation”; the city then runs on that chain’s averages.
Good to know
- Nothing here is investment advice. Weather shows what prices already did; it is not a forecast.
- Fees shown are estimates for a simple transfer.
- The forecast game has points only: no prizes, no cash value, nothing to buy. The bricks used for decorating are play points too, and are separate from forecast points.
